On 13 November 2025, JCAR ATRACE representatives actively contributed to the 3rd edition of the International Community on Floods (ICoF), hosted by EGTC Euregio Meuse-Rhine in Eupen. The event brought together diverse organisations from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany to address key challenges in flood risk management and foster transnational cooperation.
JCAR ATRACE played a central role in the morning session titled “Flood Management in Cross-Border Catchment Areas”, featuring three presentations:
-
Kymo Slager introduced JCAR ATRACE, emphasising its transboundary and cooperative approach to flood resilience.
-
Simon Nollet (KU Leuven) presented a stress test of Dutch-Flemish regional catchment areas, highlighting technical strategies for risk assessment.
-
Maria Paula Avila Guzman (ULiège) shared insights on flood damage modelling in the commercial sector, underlining the importance of data-driven solutions for economic resilience.
-
Anicia Touraine Andersson (UTwente) presented her research, focussing on the importance of understanding cooperation from a task-based perspective, including a call for participation.
During the event, participants engaged in discussions on overcoming obstacles to cross-border collaboration—such as time constraints and language barriers—during the Cross-Border Collaboration Lab. This interactive session explored practical solutions to strengthen partnerships and knowledge exchange across regions.
ICoF underscored how essential cross-border collaboration is for effective flood risk management. JCAR ATRACE’s contributions demonstrated the value of combining technical expertise and social research to strengthen partnerships and accelerate joint action across river basins.
