Preparing for the future: GPRW stress test workshop

In October, the first results of the stress test for the GPRW* area were presented during the project’s second workshop, marking an important step forward in understanding and managing extreme floods in the region.

Two central questions guided the discussions

  1. What may be the impact of an extreme rainfall event of around 200 mm in this region?
This scenario, comparable to the devastating floods of July 2021, provided a critical basis for evaluating system vulnerabilities and resilience.

  2. Which possible measures should we focus on to evaluate their effects in the next phase of the project?
Participants suggested a range of strategies aimed at reducing flood risk and improving preparedness for future extreme events.

Collaboration across borders

Working in an international context brings unique challenges, as best practices and methodologies often differ between countries. However, these differences also create valuable opportunities for mutual learning and knowledge exchange. This spirit of collaboration was evident throughout the interactive workshop.

The event brought together numerous stakeholders and experts, fostering a first shared understanding of transnational floodings after a very extreme rainfall event in the region and inspiring innovative ideas for the next steps. Overall, the workshop strengthened international cooperation and laid the groundwork for more coordinated and effective flood risk management in the GPRW area.
